Lagos Thugs Demolish Houses Over N25m Demands

By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa

Over 50 buildings in Alimosho have been destroyed by suspected landgrabbers known as “Omo Onile.”

Since January 27, the thugs have demanded between N15m and N25m from landlords to spare their homes.

The hoodlums falsely claimed they were acting on Federal Housing Authority (FHA) orders to collect “renewal” fees. They forced residents to purchase N100,000 forms and threatened immediate demolition for those unable to pay.

Witnesses reported that the operation lasted two weeks, leaving many families homeless. Occupants were reportedly assaulted for filming the destruction, while properties were stripped of roofs and leveled by the armed gang.

The FHA has disowned the group, labeling them impostors and confirming that no such demolition was authorized. FHA officials who attempted to intervene were reportedly chased away by the violent thugs.

Devastated residents staged a protest calling on Governor Sanwo-Olu for urgent protection and intervention. Despite reports of nearby police presence during the raids, the community remains vulnerable and in deep crisis.
