Atiku Denies Secret VP Deals with Makinde

Former Vice President and chieftain of African Democratic Congress, Atiku Abubakar has dismissed claims of a secret vice-presidential deal with Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde.
His team labeled the reports, allegedly spread by Ayo Fayose, as “malicious fabrications” and “insider fiction” meant to distract the public.
Regarding the specific allegations of political horse-trading, Atiku’s spokesperson Phrank Shaibu stated, “There were no negotiations over vice-presidential tickets. There were no discussions about ₦10 billion contributions. There were no zoning manipulations.”
The rumors suggested Makinde promised ₦10 billion in exchange for the VP slot during a recent meeting in Minna. Shaibu denied these claims, stating the visit to former leader Ibrahim Babangida involved no secret pacts or financial demands.
Shaibu maintained that Atiku’s political engagements are principled and national in scope, not transactional. He criticized those attempting to “manufacture relevance” by inventing stories, asserting that Atiku does not trade in bribery or backroom theatrics.
The statement urged Nigerians to treat the gossip with contempt, noting that such lies eventually collapse under the truth. Atiku remains focused on “national redemption” rather than the desperate power-sharing schemes described in the viral reports.
