Kano Police Nab Six Over Alleged Tricycle Theft

By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa

The Kano State Police Command has arrested six suspects for their roles in a criminal syndicate specializing in tricycle theft and resale.

The arrests were sparked by a complaint from Ayuba Muhammad, whose tricycle was stolen from the Panshekara Quarters on January 24, 2026.

Police spokesperson Abdullahi Kiyawa confirmed that a targeted investigation identified the six-man group. The suspects include Salim Zakari (20), Faruk Abubakar (17), Yusuf Garba (20), Mastur Shehu (19), and Safiyanu Suleiman (23).

Detailing the breakthrough, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa stated, “The Kano State Police Command has arrested six suspects involved in a case of criminal conspiracy, theft, and receiving stolen property.”

This operation is part of an ongoing crackdown to curb the rising trend of “Keke Napep” theft across Kano.

Authorities noted that these syndicates often operate in suburban areas, targeting unsuspecting riders to dismantle or resell their vehicles.

The Commissioner of Police has ordered a discreet investigation to trace any further stolen property and dismantle the rest of the network.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and ensure their vehicles have proper registration and tracking systems.

The suspects are currently in custody and will face charges once the investigation is complete. The police emphasized that this arrest serves as a stern warning to criminal elements operating within the state.
