Daniel Nwachukwu Assumes Office as AE-FUNAI Vice-Chancellor

Professor Daniel Nwachukwu has officially become the 4th Substantive Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo.
His appointment followed a rigorous selection process by the Governing Council involving over 40 distinguished professors.
A specialist in Cardiovascular Physiology, Nwachukwu previously served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus. He brings extensive administrative expertise to AE-FUNAI, pledging a leadership style defined by integrity and a clear vision for growth.
The new Vice-Chancellor has placed staff welfare and institutional innovation at the forefront of his agenda. He expressed a strong belief that unity among the university community is essential for transforming the institution into a world-class center of excellence.
Regarding his outlook for the university’s future, Professor Nwachukwu stated, “We have challenges ahead, but I believe that with unity, creativity, and determination, we can turn those challenges into opportunities.”
The outgoing VC, Professor Sunday Elom, noted during the handover that the university’s population grew from 9,000 to 14,000 students under his watch.
He also highlighted significant increases in research output and the expansion of academic departments.
Nwachukwu aims to build on these successes by enhancing research capabilities and strengthening local and international partnerships. The university community anticipates a new era of development and academic distinction under his leadership.
