Rivers APC Explains Delay in Officially Welcoming Fubara into Party

By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa

Rivers State APC Chairman, Tony Okocha has clarified that while Governor Siminalayi Fubara received his membership card in December 2025, a public “mega-rally” is pending.

The party is following specific administrative steps to ensure a smooth transition. Full integration requires aligning the Governor’s entry with grassroots party structures.

The leadership emphasized that joining the party at the state level is just the beginning. For a proper “official” entry, members must be registered in their local wards. This ensures the Governor is recognized by the foundation of the party, not just the national office.

Regarding the process, Okocha stated, “I say anybody, not restricted to the governor anybody who wants to join the All Progressives Congress should enter the party through the door, not through the window. You have to go to your ward to enroll because your name cannot be found at the national secretariat except it comes from your ward.”

Fubara’s move to the APC is a strategic effort to align Rivers State with the federal government’s “Renewed Hope” agenda. The Governor joined to ensure political stability and attract development to the state. This alignment is considered vital for his 2027 political goals.

While the rally is delayed, the state APC has pledged total loyalty to Fubara as its new leader. Party officials stated they are ready to support his administration’s success.

This unification aims to end the long-running political friction within the state.

The party is now working on a roadmap to reconcile factions and strengthen the APC’s presence in Rivers. A future public reception will signal the party’s dominance and readiness for upcoming elections. For now, the focus remains on ward-level mobilization.
