Kwara to Boost Health Workforce as Hospitals Board Visits University of Offa

The Kwara State Government has taken steps to expand health sector capacity as the Kwara State Hospitals Management Board (KW-HMB) inspected the University of Offa for a potential partnership in the training of students in health-related disciplines.

The inspection followed a request from the management of the University seeking collaboration with state health authorities to provide practical training opportunities for its students.

In a statement issued in Ilorin, the board said the visit was conducted to evaluate the institution’s suitability for such collaboration and to assess available facilities required for effective healthcare training.

The assessment team was led by the Executive Secretary of KW-HMB, Dr Abdulraheem Malik, who said the initiative aligns with the state government’s policy of strengthening human capital development in the health sector.

According to the board, the visit forms part of the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s strategy to encourage partnerships between government-owned health institutions and educational establishments.

During the inspection, officials examined critical infrastructure and training facilities to determine whether they meet thef standards needed to provide students with adequate practical exposure.

Malik noted that collaborations between hospitals and educational institutions are crucial for improving the quality of healthcare education and addressing manpower gaps within the state’s health system.

The statement added that the management of the University of Offa welcomed the inspection and expressed readiness to meet all regulatory and professional requirements necessary for training in accredited state health facilities.

Both parties indicated that the engagement could lead to further discussions and formal agreements aimed at improving healthcare training and service delivery across Kwara State.
