Trump Deletes Video Targeting Obamas After Widespread Backlash
President Donald Trump has removed a controversial video he shared online targeting former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, following intense public condemnation.
The video, which Trump posted on his Truth Social account on Friday, portrayed the former first couple in a racially offensive manner and immediately triggered backlash from within and outside the United States.
The post was widely criticised as racist, with calls mounting for its immediate removal. Hours after it went live, the video was taken down.
The White House, which initially defended the post, later reversed its position, saying the content was uploaded by a staff member and had since been deleted.
Before the video was removed, Republican Senator Tim Scott condemned the post, describing it as deeply offensive. Scott, the only Black Republican in the U.S. Senate, said he hoped the video was fake and urged the president to take it down.
According to CNN, several Republican lawmakers contacted Trump directly to express concern over the post and discuss its implications.
The incident added to growing criticism of Trump’s use of social media, particularly content viewed as divisive or inflammatory, and renewed debate over conduct expected from the office of the presidency.
