Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum recently hosted a high-level delegation in Maiduguri, including ambassadors from seven nations and top United Nations officials.
The visit aimed to evaluate humanitarian progress and recovery efforts.
The diplomatic group featured representatives from India, Egypt, Indonesia, the Philippines, Turkey, Malaysia, and Qatar. They were joined by UN Coordinator Mohamed Malick Fall and Minister Bernard Doro.
Acting Governor, Alhaji Usman Kadafur led the visitors on a tour of various state-funded projects. These initiatives focused on critical sectors like education, healthcare, and human capital development.
The delegation inspected vocational centers and malnutrition clinics while reviewing programs for girl-child education. These projects are central to the administration’s strategy for long-term regional stability.
Mohamed Malick Fall praised the visible transformation in Borno despite ongoing security hurdles. He noted that the government’s proactive approach is effectively shifting the state’s narrative toward development.
The UN Coordinator specifically lauded the heavy investments in the education sector. He emphasized that prioritizing schooling is the most effective way to address the root causes of the regional insurgency.
Minister Bernard Doro expressed satisfaction with the new infrastructure and social services. He remarked that the level of progress is remarkable considering the decade of conflict the state has endured.
Highlighting the state’s positive evolution, Fall stated, “But we want to show that beyond the headlines we always see around security challenges, there are things that are taking place which are transformative in Borno State.”
