Taraba Governor Kefas Joins APC, Lauded as Major Political Gain
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has described the defection of Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling APC as a major political achievement for the state.
Speaking at a reception on Saturday organised to mark the governor’s defection, the APC chairman said Taraba stands to benefit significantly by aligning with the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Professor Yilwatda emphasised that Governor Kefas “did nothing wrong” by joining the APC, noting that the party provides opportunities for the state’s development.
He encouraged other political figures to consider joining the APC in the interest of progress and assured that both new and existing members would enjoy equal rights within the party.
Governor Kefas, appearing visibly pleased, described his decision as deliberate and motivated by the desire to strengthen Taraba’s connection with the federal government.
He stressed that the move was intended for the welfare of the people rather than personal gain.
“We must align with the centre to benefit from all that is needed for our development. I am not here for survival but for service. I will not abandon our mandate; rather, I will strengthen it because Taraba is open for progress,” he said.
Vice President Kashim Shettima also commended the governor’s decision, calling it “personally touching” and urging the people of Taraba to support Kefas in advancing the state’s development agenda.
The official ceremony drew numerous political leaders, including APC governors, members of the National Assembly, ministers, and other party officials.
