Donald Duke Leaves PDP for ADC in Cross River
Former Cross River State Governor, Donald Duke, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), ending his latest association with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Duke was registered as a member of the ADC in Ward 5 of Calabar Municipality, where he received his party membership card in the presence of party supporters and officials.
The defection marks the second time the former governor has exited the PDP. He had earlier left the party for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), where he later secured the party’s presidential ticket, a move that generated public debate at the time.
Following Duke’s defection, the leadership of the ADC in Bakassi Local Government Area urged residents of Cross River State and other Nigerians to embrace the party, describing it as a viable alternative for national renewal.
The appeal was made after a stakeholders’ meeting involving local executive members, ward chairmen and secretaries of the party in Bakassi.
In a statement released to journalists in Calabar on Friday, the party called on undecided Nigerians to align with the ADC, saying it is committed to delivering meaningful change in the country.
“We invite our family and friends who are still undecided to join the ADC today, as the party is ready to drive transformative change in Nigeria,” the statement said.
The statement, signed by the Bakassi Chapter Chairman, Emmanuel Asuquo, and Secretary, Eko Boco, also pledged loyalty to the party’s national leadership.
The chapter expressed confidence in the leadership of the ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, and the National Secretary, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, affirming its commitment to strengthening the party’s structures at all levels.
