Chelsea Fan Hospitalized After Attack Ahead of Champions League Clash in Italy

A Chelsea supporter has been hospitalized following an attack in Naples just hours before the club’s crucial Champions League fixture against Napoli.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening as fans gathered in the Italian city, which has a long-standing reputation for volatility regarding visiting football supporters.
While social media reports initially suggested the fan had been stabbed, official club communications confirmed that two supporters were treated for injuries, though they are fortunately not considered life-threatening.
The attack has cast a shadow over the highly anticipated match at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, prompting heightened security measures across the city.
In response to the violence, Chelsea FC issued an urgent safety advisory to the 2,500 traveling fans, warning them to avoid walking alone or wearing club colors that could identify them to local “Ultra” groups.
The club has arranged for shuttle buses with police escorts to transport fans safely to the stadium to prevent further confrontations.
The club expressed deep concern over the safety of its supporters in a formal statement, emphasizing the need for vigilance during their stay in Italy. They noted that the city of Naples has a history of targeting foreign fans during major European competitions, making it a high-risk destination for traveling crowds.
Confirming the incident, the club stated: “The club is aware of an incident that took place on Tuesday evening in Naples. Two fans are being treated in hospital, having sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The club would like to remind all supporters to exercise extreme caution whilst in the city and take note of the advice shared ahead of this fixture.”
