Tinubu, NSA, CDS in Emergency Security Meeting Amidst Rising Attacks

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently holding a high-level security meeting with the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The emergency session, taking place at the President’s official residence, comes in the wake of worsening insecurity across several parts of the country.

The meeting is Tinubu’s first major security engagement since returning from a 19-day working visit to Europe on Monday evening. It underscores the urgency of the security challenges facing the nation, particularly in the North Central region.

Sources at the State House confirmed that the meeting is focused on reviewing intelligence and operational reports from flashpoints across the country, with a particular emphasis on Plateau and Benue states. These states have seen a surge in violent attacks allegedly carried out by armed groups and suspected foreign herders, resulting in the deaths of hundreds and the displacement of thousands.

In recent weeks, communities in these regions have been under siege, with reports of coordinated assaults on villages, destruction of property, and widespread fear among residents. Humanitarian conditions in the affected areas have also worsened, raising concerns among civil society groups and international observers.

President Tinubu, who campaigned on a strong security platform, is expected to demand a more robust and proactive response from his security chiefs. According to sources familiar with the meeting’s agenda, the President is pressing for a comprehensive reassessment of current strategies and a ramp-up in military and intelligence operations in the most affected areas.

This latest development follows mounting public pressure on the federal government to act decisively in addressing the recurring violence, which has left entire communities vulnerable and disrupted socio-economic activities in the affected regions.

Though details of the meeting remain confidential as of press time, presidential aides have hinted that a statement may be issued shortly, outlining immediate actions and renewed commitments to restoring peace and stability.
