Gov AbdulRazaq Strides in Health, Other Clear, Measurables, Says Commissioner

Kwara State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, has stated that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s achievements in the health sector are visible and measurable.

She made these remarks in a statement issued on Monday in Ilorin, the state capital.

The Commissioner noted that the current administration has significantly improved diagnostic capabilities. Key acquisitions include a state-of-the-art 160-slice CT scan and a modern 1.5 Tesla MRI machine, both of which are scheduled for public inauguration soon.

Furthermore, Dr. El-Imam highlighted the distribution of modern abdominal ultrasound machines across various state facilities. These tools are intended to strengthen the state’s internal capacity to handle complex medical cases without external referrals.

Reflecting on the state of the sector when the Governor took office, the Commissioner described the inherited medical equipment and infrastructure as largely dilapidated or obsolete. She noted that many facilities were previously non-functional.

Addressing the “Japa” syndrome, she acknowledged that the shortage of medical personnel is a global challenge. However, she emphasized that the state has responded with massive recruitment across all healthcare cadres, including doctors and nurses.

The state also successfully conducted a free medico-surgical outreach program in 2025, benefiting over 10,000 residents. This initiative targeted people in hard-to-reach communities across all 16 local government areas.

Regarding the overall progress made, the Commissioner asserted that: “The report of the transition committee was as clear as were the several poor indices the administration inherited at the time.”
