Bandits ambush police patrol team, kill inspector in Oyo
The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a police inspector during an attack on a patrol team at the Budo Masalasi Border Post in the state.
The incident was confirmed on Sunday by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, in a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan.
According to the police, between 10 and 15 armed men attacked a patrol team led by ASP Entonu Shaibu on Saturday at about 1:30 p.m. During the attack, Inspector Aliu Oluwole was shot dead while attempting to repel the assailants.
The attackers were also said to have carted away the slain officer’s AK-47 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition, bearing breach number 4516.
Confirming the incident, Olayinka said the inspector paid the supreme price while discharging his duties.
“Yes, there was an attack on police operatives during which an inspector, while courageously repelling the attack, paid the supreme price in the line of duty,” he stated.
The police said a manhunt has been launched for the attackers, adding that security has been reinforced in the area to forestall further attacks.
