Nigeria’s Gas Output Sees Significant Monthly Surge

Nigeria’s gas production has witnessed a substantial 15.6% month-on-month increase, reaching 227,931.65 million standard cubic feet (mscf) in March 2025.

According to data from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), the nation’s gas output has also recorded a marginal year-on-year increase from 198,353.62 mscf in March 2024.

A breakdown of the production figures reveals that associated gas, which is extracted alongside crude oil, accounted for 119,552.75 mscf, while non-associated gas, produced independently of crude oil, contributed 108,378.90 mscf.

The Ministry of Petroleum Resources (Gas) has been working to increase investment and production in the sector. The ministry’s efforts are geared towards tapping into Nigeria’s vast gas reserves, which are estimated to be around 202 trillion cubic feet, making it the 9th largest globally.

The Nigerian LNG Limited has also reaffirmed its commitment to expanding its operations. The company’s NLNG Train 7 Project is expected to boost its production capacity by 35%, increasing from 22 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 30 mtpa. This project solidifies Nigeria’s position as a top-tier supplier of LNG in the global market.

With these developments, Nigeria’s gas sector is poised for significant growth, driven by increased investment and production. The nation’s vast gas reserves and strategic projects are set to play a crucial role in shaping its energy future.
