Why I invited Otti to APC, Deputy speaker

Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu has clarified his invitation to Abia State Governor Alex Otti to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He explained that the move was motivated by a desire to align the state with the federal government for better regional development and political synergy.
Kalu dismissed claims of ulterior motives, asserting that his primary goal is to strengthen the APC’s presence in Abia. He argued that the state would benefit significantly from being part of the ruling party at the national level ahead of future elections.
The Deputy Speaker also addressed rumors that he intended to obstruct the governor’s entry into the party to protect his own political interests. He maintained that his public outreach proves he is not interested in gatekeeping the party for personal gain.
In his defense against these allegations of political gatekeeping, Kalu highlighted his role as a bridge-builder for the party in the Southeast. He stated: “Even the narrative that I want to block him from coming to APC is not true. If I was self-centered, I would have blocked him, but here I am the one inviting him.”
He further emphasized that bringing a sitting governor into the APC is a strategic move to ensure Abia receives its fair share of democratic dividends. Kalu believes that political unity between the state and the center is the fastest route to progress for his constituents.
Ultimately, Kalu reaffirmed that the APC remains an inclusive platform for all visionary leaders. He urged the public to view his invitation as a call for unity and regional growth rather than a source of political friction.
