Shehu Sani Calls for Collective Action Over Kajuru Kidnapping

Former senator and human rights activist Shehu Sani has called on Nigerians to unite and take collective responsibility in addressing the recent kidnapping of worshippers in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

He urged leaders, security agencies, and communities to focus on rescuing the victims rather than politicizing the tragedy. The abduction, which reportedly involved over 160 worshippers from churches in the Kurmin Wali community, has sparked widespread concern across Kaduna and beyond. While some victims managed to escape, many remain in captivity, prompting urgent calls for coordinated efforts to secure their safe return. Speaking on the incident, Sani emphasized that saving lives must be the top priority. “Everyone who has something to contribute should do so, rather than play politics with the lives of the people,” he said, highlighting the importance of unity and cooperation in confronting insecurity. Sani also commended the Kaduna State Government and security agencies for ongoing efforts to tackle banditry and violent crime but cautioned that criminals often target vulnerable communities. He stressed the need for sustained vigilance and coordinated action to prevent such incidents in the future. The kidnapping has drawn reactions from religious and community groups. The Southern Kaduna Christian Leaders Association announced a two-day fasting and prayer programme, calling for divine intervention and intensified government action to secure the release of the abducted worshippers. Governor Uba Sani visited the affected communities, assuring residents that the state government, in collaboration with federal security agencies, is working tirelessly to ensure the safe return of all victims. He reiterated that protecting lives and property remains a core responsibility of his administration. Community leaders have also criticized initial denials by some local authorities regarding the abduction, describing it as misinformation that undermines trust and delays rescue operations. As rescue efforts continue, Shehu Sani’s call for collective action serves as a reminder that security challenges in Nigeria require cooperation between government, security agencies, and local communities, with lives taking precedence over politics.
