FG Unveils ₦2 Billion Research-to-Commercialisation Initiative
The Federal Government has launched a National Research-to-Commercialisation Policy aimed at transforming Nigeria’s research outputs into economic, industrial and social value.
The initiative, part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, seeks to convert academic research into market-ready products, services and scalable solutions to drive national growth and competitiveness.
The policy unveiling included the inauguration of the Steering and Policy Drafting Committees which will oversee its implementation and development. A total of ₦2 billion has been earmarked to support research and innovation under the new framework.
The policy is designed to strengthen collaboration between government, academia and industry, ensuring that publicly funded research contributes directly to technological advancement and economic development.
The initiative represents a major step toward bridging the gap between research findings and practical applications, providing a platform for scientists and innovators to commercialise their work and contribute to Nigeria’s industrialisation.
Stakeholders are expected to work together to identify priority research areas, facilitate technology transfer and ensure that research outputs benefit local communities and the wider economy.
