Tinubu mourns Kano businessman Abdulaziz
President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of renowned Kano-based businessman and trade union leader, Alhaji Bature Abdulaziz, describing his passing as a significant loss to Nigeria’s commercial sector.
Abdulaziz died over the weekend, a development that has drawn tributes from business leaders, traders, and political stakeholders across the country.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu said the late businessman’s influence transcended Kano State, noting that his impact on commerce was felt in many parts of Nigeria.
“The loss is not only for the Kano business community but for the nation at large, considering the deceased’s far-reaching influence on trade and economic activities,” the President said.
Tinubu acknowledged the support he received from Abdulaziz during the 2023 presidential campaigns and praised his unwavering commitment to national unity and patriotism.
He particularly highlighted Abdulaziz’s role as the founder of the Patriotic Elders Network for Peace (PENP), through which he consistently advocated peace, stability, and national cohesion.
The President condoled with the Kano business community, the government and people of the state, as well as the family of the deceased, urging them to take solace in the enduring legacy of service, leadership, and community development he left behind.
Abdulaziz was a prominent figure in Nigeria’s trading sector and rose to national prominence through his leadership of the Kantin Kwari Market Traders Association, one of the largest textile markets in West Africa.
He later became the National President of the Harmonised Traders Association of Nigeria, where he championed traders’ welfare, business growth, and economic empowerment across the country.
Beyond commerce, he played an active role in civic and political advocacy, serving as National President of the Patriotic Elders Network for Peace, an organisation dedicated to peacebuilding, national security, and political engagement.
His death was confirmed by one of his sons, Ismail Abdulaziz.
