Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago has commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for sustained efforts in restoring peace and safeguarding lives and property across Niger State, describing the military as a key partner in ensuring security and stability.
The governor spoke on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at the 2025 Combined West African Social Activities (WASA) celebration hosted by the Training and Doctrine Command of the Nigerian Army (TRADOC NA) and the 31 Artillery Brigade at the Minna Military Cantonment.
Bago, who served as Special Guest of Honour at the event, praised the professionalism and sacrifices of the Armed Forces, noting that their commitment has led to significant improvements in security in several parts of the state.
He cited areas such as Shiroro and Munya Local Government Areas, which he said had previously experienced insecurity but now record notable progress due to coordinated security operations.
He described WASA as more than a cultural festivity, adding that it provides a platform for strengthening civil-military relations and fostering mutual understanding between the Army and host communities.
As a mark of appreciation, the Niger State Government made monetary donations to the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), the Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA), and the WASA Organising Committee.
Earlier, the Commander of TRADOC NA, Major General Peter Malla, thanked the governor for attending the ceremony and expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu, for providing resources to enhance training effectiveness and improve troop welfare.
He urged officers and soldiers to remain disciplined and dedicated to their constitutional duties, while acknowledging the role of military families in sustaining morale.
In a vote of thanks, the Commander of 31 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Mohammed Umar Jibo, appreciated Governor Bago for his presence and donations, noting their positive impact on troop morale and civil-military relations.
He reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ commitment to defending the nation and ensuring peace and security in Niger State.
The event featured cultural displays, traditional performances from various geopolitical zones, and other activities highlighting unity within the Nigerian Army.
The statement was signed by Lieutenant Colonel Felicia Daniel, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, TRADOC Nigerian Army and dated January 18, 2026.
