Macron Rejects Intimidation, Says France Will Defend National Sovereignty
French President Emmanuel Macron has today reaffirmed France’s commitment to the sovereignty and independence of nations, saying the principle guides the country’s foreign policy decisions in Europe and beyond.
In a statement posted on X, Macron said France’s support for Ukraine and the creation of a coalition of willing partners for a robust and lasting peace are rooted in the defence of national sovereignty and security.
He added that France remains committed to the United Nations and its Charter.
Macron also confirmed France’s participation in a military exercise organised by Denmark in Greenland, stating that the decision was taken to safeguard security in the Arctic and at the outer edges of Europe.
He said France fully assumes its involvement in the exercise.
The French leader stressed that no intimidation or threat would influence France’s stance in Ukraine, Greenland or anywhere else where such principles are challenged.
He added that tariff threats are unacceptable and warned that Europeans would respond in a united and coordinated manner if such threats are confirmed.
Macron said he would continue to engage with European partners to ensure that European sovereignty is upheld.
