Super Eagles Beat Egypt for Bronze at 2025 AFCON
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles, on winning the bronze medal at the 2025 African Cup of Nations.
The victory came after Nigeria defeated Egypt in a penalty shootout following a regular time in which the Nigerian team dominated.
The win followed the Super Eagles’ semi-final loss to host nation Morocco last Wednesday.
In a statement, President Tinubu commended the players for their determination, persistence and resilience, noting that they embodied the can-do spirit of Nigeria.
“Despite their good run during the tournament, the Eagles lost the semi-final match to Morocco during the penalty shootout and our people’s hopes of winning the championship were dashed,” the President said.
He added that the team remained undaunted and that their efforts had now been rewarded, describing the bronze medal as “surely feels good like gold.” The medal presentation is scheduled for Sunday in Rabat, Morocco.
The statement was issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
