Nigerian Air Force Strengthens Civil-Military Relations, Receives Praise from CIMICO

The Nigerian Air Force has been commended for its community-centric approach and commitment to civil-military engagement during a recent visit by Dr Adams Otakwu, Chairperson and Coordinator of Civil Military Cooperation (CIMICO) and his delegation to NAF Headquarters.

The visit provided a platform for dialogue aimed at enhancing mutual understanding, promoting transparency and fostering partnerships between the NAF and civil society organisations across the country.

Dr Otakwu praised the Air Force for its openness to dialogue and initiatives such as the Chief of the Air Staff Special Intervention Projects and Civilian Harm Mitigation and Response Strategies. He said structured civil-military interfaces help demystify military operations, strengthen humanitarian outreach and collaboratively address security challenges.

Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, on behalf of the Chief of the Air Staff, and Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Chief of Civil-Military Relations, expressed appreciation for CIMICO’s support. They reaffirmed the NAF’s commitment to civil-military relations as a core aspect of operations, highlighting public trust, cooperation with civil authorities and intelligence sharing as key enablers of operational effectiveness and national security.

The engagement concluded with a review of planned activities for the year, including civil society participation in specialized trainings and expanded stakeholder engagements, with both parties pledging to institutionalise regular consultations and explore actionable partnership opportunities.
