Nasarawa Senator Buried as SDP Leaders Pay Tribute

Chieftains of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), lawmakers, and traditional rulers recently gathered in Lafia, Nasarawa State, to bury the late Senator Godiya Akwashiki.
The senator, who represented Nasarawa North, passed away at the age of 52 in an Indian hospital following a prolonged illness.
During the funeral and an evening of tributes, party leaders described Akwashiki as a rare symbol of integrity and selfless service.
The SDP National Chairman, Professor Sadiq Gombe, called his death a “painful loss,” noting that the late lawmaker lived a life defined by honor and a deep commitment to his constituents.
A particularly moving detail shared at the event was that the senator had expressed concern about his failing health shortly before his death.
He had even considered stepping aside from his position to ensure his people received quality representation, an act the party chairman praised as a rare sign of patriotism.
Political figures from across the country, including former governors and members of the National Assembly, attended the ceremony to pay their final respects.
They collectively prayed for the repose of his soul and for the strength of his family and the people of Nasarawa State to bear the loss.
