Police Probe Acid Attack on Adamawa Teenager

The Adamawa State Police Command has launched an investigation into an alleged acid attack on a 17-year-old boy, Walid Mohammed, in Yola South Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Yola, confirming that the incident occurred on January 14, 2026, at Shagari Quarters.

According to Nguroje, the teenager was attacked while on his way to a mosque when an unidentified substance suspected to be acid was sprayed on him. The victim reportedly ran to the Shagari Division Police Headquarters in distress to report the incident.

“On January 14, 2026, the victim, a 17-year-old, ran to the Shagari Division Headquarters stating that while on his way to the mosque, he was sprayed with a substance suspected to be acidic by one Idris Hamza, a resident of Shagari in Yola South LGA,” the statement said.

The police said the victim was immediately rushed to a hospital, where he is currently receiving medical attention. The alleged suspect has been arrested and taken into custody.

Nguroje added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Dankombo Morris, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation.

He assured members of the public that the police would leave no stone unturned in uncovering the circumstances surrounding the incident and bringing anyone found culpable to justice.

The police also urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing useful information that could aid the investigation.
