Air Peace Faces Passenger Complaints Over Prolonged Delay at Lagos Airport
More than 50 travellers bound for Warri, Delta State, were left frustrated on Wednesday after their flight with Air Peace failed to depart as scheduled from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, raising fresh concerns about passenger communication and service delivery.
Affected passengers said they had remained at the terminal for over five hours without clear updates from the airline regarding boarding or a revised departure time.
According to accounts from the travellers, the only explanation initially given was that adverse weather conditions had disrupted operations earlier in the morning.
A passenger explained that the airline cited weather issues at about 8:00 a.m. but added that no subsequent briefing or guidance was offered as the waiting time stretched on.
The situation was particularly worrying for families of vulnerable passengers. Mr Okome Thomas, whose aunt was among those scheduled to travel, said she had arrived at the airport as early as 6:27 a.m. for a medical-related trip to Warri but was left waiting for hours despite her health condition.
He said: “Air Peace is fond of repeatedly disregarding its passengers. The airline acts as though it is rendering charity services to Nigerians.”
Passengers also complained that airline officials provided little reassurance or engagement throughout the delay, further heightening tensions at the departure lounge.
Attempts by Vanguard to obtain an official explanation from Air Peace representatives regarding the disruption were unsuccessful as of the time this report was filed.
The incident adds to ongoing public scrutiny of domestic airline operations in Nigeria, particularly around timely information, passenger welfare and accountability during flight disruptions.
