IGP, SEC DG Seek Stronger Collaboration to Combat Financial Crimes
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has called for deeper collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to strengthen national security, protect the financial system, and boost investor confidence.
Egbetokun made the call on Tuesday at the Force Headquarters in Abuja while receiving the Director-General of the SEC, Dr. Emomotimi Agama, and his management team on a courtesy visit.
The meeting focused on reinforcing inter-agency cooperation, particularly in tackling financial crimes, capital market infractions and cyber-enabled economic threats.
Agama commended the Nigeria Police Force for its role in maintaining law and order and for supporting the Commission in carrying out its regulatory and enforcement duties.
He praised the professionalism and responsiveness of the police in addressing financial and capital market-related offences.
The SEC Director-General expressed interest in expanding collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC), noting its advanced operational capacity in combating cyber-enabled financial crimes.
He said stronger synergy would enhance intelligence sharing, regulatory enforcement and capacity building in addressing emerging risks in Nigeria’s capital market.
In his response, Egbetokun welcomed the SEC delegation and appreciated the Commission’s confidence in the Police Force.
He reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to sustained inter-agency cooperation and assured the SEC of continued support in ongoing and future engagements.
The IGP noted that modern policing relies heavily on institutional partnerships and pledged that specialized units, including the NPF-NCCC, would continue working closely with the SEC to safeguard Nigeria’s economic and financial interests.
The visit concluded with both agencies reiterating their shared commitment to strengthening cooperation in the fight against financial crimes.
