‎Two Lawmakers Drop from Fubara Impeachment Plot

‎In a significant twist to the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, two members of the House of Assembly have officially withdrawn their support for the impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu.

‎The lawmakers, Hon. Sylvanus Nwankwo, representing Omuma State Constituency and serving as the Minority Leader, and Hon. Peter Abbey, representing Degema State Constituency, announced their departure from the impeachment process on Monday.

Their decision marks a notable shift in the legislative block that has been pushing for the governor’s removal.

‎Beyond their withdrawal, the two legislators issued a formal plea to their colleagues in the House. They urged the remaining lawmakers to prioritize the stability of the state by seeking a peaceful resolution to the conflict rather than pursuing the current “destabilizing” legal and legislative actions against the executive branch.

‎This development comes amid heightened political tension in Rivers State, as the Assembly remains divided between factions loyal to the Governor and those aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The exit of Nwankwo and Abbey is expected to impact the numerical strength required by the opposing faction to carry out a successful impeachment.
