LASPARK to Shut Public Parks Temporarily for Post-Festive Maintenance

The Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) has announced a temporary suspension of activities across all public parks under its supervision as part of a statewide maintenance exercise.

In a statement released on January 9 and circulated on its official platforms in the early hours of Saturday, the agency disclosed that the parks will be inaccessible to the public from January 12 to January 31, 2026.

LASPARK explained that the decision was taken following the heavy influx of visitors recorded during the recent festive period, which placed increased pressure on park facilities and landscapes.

“The Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) has announced the temporary closure of all public parks under its management across the state to enable routine maintenance and upgrade works,” the statement said.

Among the recreational centres affected by the closure are Ndubisi Kanu Park, Alausa JJT Park, Dr. Finnih Abayomi Park in Oregun, as well as other parks managed by the agency across Lagos State.

Providing further clarification, LASPARK noted that “the temporary shutdown is necessary to carry out essential landscaping, facility repairs, and general upgrades to ensure the parks remain safe, clean and enjoyable for residents and visitors.”

The agency added that the maintenance exercise is in line with its long-term objectives, stating that the programme “is part of its commitment to providing well-maintained green spaces that promote relaxation, wellness and environmental sustainability.”

LASPARK assured residents that all affected parks will be reopened to the public immediately after the completion of the maintenance and upgrade works.
