APC’s 30-State Stronghold Poised to Boost Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election, Says Party Official

The growing number of governors under the All Progressives Congress (APC) is expected to strengthen President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for re-election in 2027, party leaders have said.
Prince Sunday Fagbemi, APC chairman in Kwara State, disclosed this during a stakeholders’ meeting and the official launch of the party’s e-registration and membership revalidation exercise in Ilorin.
He noted that the ruling party now controls 30 states, up from 28 in December, putting Tinubu in a favorable position ahead of next year’s general elections.
“Looking at this, the President’s re-election will be a smooth sail. What remains is for each of us at the sub-national level to ensure we deliver our states,” Fagbemi said.
Fagbemi praised Governor AbdulRazaq of Kwara for his cooperation with the federal government, describing him as loyal and constructive.
“Governor AbdulRazaq is not arrogant, not headstrong and not in unhealthy competition with the President.
This attitude has reflected in the development projects brought to Kwara, including tax reliefs,” he added.
The APC registration and revalidation exercise, according to Fagbemi, marks the beginning of preparations for the 2027 elections. “It is about mobilizing people to vote for the party so that you have people who will vote for you,” he said.
Governor AbdulRazaq, recorded as the first registrant in the exercise, emphasised the importance of inclusivity and accurate data collection.
“All eligible persons willing to join the party must be allowed to do so. We want to know how many of us are members so we can enumerate, canvass, protect, and empower ourselves properly, leaving no one behind,” he said.
The governor urged officials to proactively register new members in addition to existing ones.
“This is an opportunity to market the party. Use the achievements at federal, state, and local levels to expand the party beyond where it used to be,” AbdulRazaq said, citing ongoing projects across key sectors in Kwara State.
He also reminded participants that possession of a National Identity Number (NIN) is required for registration into the party.
The event was attended by top party leaders, federal and state lawmakers, members of the state executive council, board chairmen, and other stakeholders.
