Troops Rescue Six Abductees in Kaduna

Troops attached to Sector 1 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have successfully freed six people abducted by armed criminals during a coordinated security operation in parts of Kaduna State.

The rescue occurred on January 5, 2026, during ongoing clearance operations across Chikun, Kajuru, Kachia and Kagarko Local Government Areas, as well as border communities around Kauru.

The exercise forms part of sustained efforts to disrupt the activities and movement of violent criminal elements within the Joint Operations Area.

According to information released on Tuesday by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 1 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Shuaib Umar, troops of Sub-Sector 5 were conducting routine clearance operations in the Kujeni area when they received a distress alert about the presence of armed criminals around the Kasso adjoining hills.

The troops promptly advanced to the location and engaged the criminals, applying suppressive fire that forced the suspects to retreat into nearby forests. A follow-up search of the area led to the discovery and rescue of six kidnapped victims.

After the operation, the rescued individuals were handed over to officials of the Kajuru Local Government Area and representatives of the Kajuru Emirate Council to facilitate their safe return to their families.

The General Officer Commanding, 1 Division Nigerian Army, and Commander, Sector 1 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Abubakar Sadiq Wase, praised the troops for their courage and professionalism during the operation.

He further charged them to maintain heightened vigilance and continue sustained offensive actions to prevent criminal groups from operating freely within the area.
