Nigerian Army Eliminates Three Bandits and Apprehends Kogi Logistics Provider

Troops from the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade successfully neutralized three bandits and captured an alleged logistics provider during a series of ambush operations and patrols across the Yagba West and Kabba Bunu Local Government Areas of Kogi State.

The military actions took place on January 3, 2026, sparked by reliable intelligence regarding bandit movements shifting from the Adankolo region toward Agbadu Bunu within the Kabba Bunu district.

In a statement issued this Sunday, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 12 Brigade, explained that soldiers moved quickly to set up an ambush at a known transit point.

“The criminals walked directly into the military’s ambush and were engaged in a gunfight, forcing them to retreat; evidence of blood at the scene suggested several others sustained injuries during the escape,” the statement noted.

“During this specific clash, soldiers killed two bandits and seized an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, 99 rounds of specialized ammunition, a handmade firearm, and 11 cartridges,” the report continued.

Furthermore, Abdullahi mentioned that additional intelligence pointed to bandit activity near Saminaka village in the Yagba West region.

Soldiers, working alongside local vigilante groups, launched a fighting patrol into the village and the neighboring woods.

“Upon discovering the village was empty, the troops proceeded on foot to search the dense forest and the pathways connecting Saminaka Sabo Rijiya road,” the statement detailed.

“The unit encountered a group of bandits and engaged them, resulting in the insurgents fleeing further into the wilderness.”

“While searching the withdrawal path, the troops found the body of one deceased bandit along with an AK-47 rifle and 17 rounds of ammunition.”

The official report also highlighted that during the same mission, “personnel apprehended a man named Sunday Adedotun, suspected of being a logistics supplier, hailing from Odo Eri in Yagba West.”

He was caught on a farm located within the Saminaka vicinity.

The individual allegedly claimed his role was limited to helping local farmers move their crops after the harvest season.

However, a search of the site revealed various supplies, including cases of energy drinks, soda, bottled water, and gathered agricultural goods.

The suspect is presently being held for further questioning and investigation.

The Army emphasized that these coordinated efforts demonstrate the continuous pressure being applied to criminal groups and their collaborators in the region.

Applauding the soldiers, Brig.-Gen. Kasim Sidi, Commander of the 12 Brigade, lauded their bravery, high level of professionalism, and their quick action based on the intelligence provided.

He reaffirmed to the community that the military will maintain its aggressive stance through patrols and intelligence-led missions to ensure criminals have no room to operate in the state.
