Abia First Lady Welcomes First Baby of the Year with Cash, Gift

On Thursday, Mrs. Priscilla Otti,
wife of the Governor of Abia State, visited the Akirika Ukwu Primary Healthcare Centre in Ukwa East to welcome the state’s first newborn of 2026.
The infant, named Oluebubechi Nwatuobi Excessgrace, arrived at 12:43 a.m. on New Year’s Day, weighing 3kg.
Marking the significant occasion, Mrs. Otti provided the mother and child with a variety of essentials—such as rice, milk, cooking oil, and hygiene products—alongside a ₦1 million cash gift, noting that the contribution was intended to ensure proper nutrition and care during the nursing months.
In a celebratory gesture, the First Lady bestowed the name “Ihuoma” upon the baby, sharing her wishes for a life filled with peace, grace, and divine favor.
Highlighting the birth as a positive omen for the year, Otti remarked that the delivery serves as a testament to the strengthening of Abia State’s primary healthcare network; she further urged mothers to trust and utilize government health facilities for their medical needs.
The First Lady concluded her visit by praying for the child and advising the parents to instill the strong moral foundation necessary for a successful future.
Dr. Enoch Uche, the Commissioner for Health, praised Mrs. Otti for her dedication to the medical sector, noting that her efforts align with Governor Alex Otti’s broader initiatives to improve healthcare services statewide.
The facility’s Matron, Ms. Kasarachi Emmanuel, thanked the First Lady for her presence and the generous donations, which she described as both significant and timely.
The newborn’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nwatuobi Chiagozie from Obingwa Local Government Area, expressed their deep appreciation to the First Lady for her compassion and for turning their daughter’s birth into a truly special event.
