‎Group Appeals to Governor Sule to Restore Decaying Clinic

‎Group Appeals to Governor Sule to Restore Decaying Clinic

‎The Nasarawa State Government has been called upon to provide urgent assistance to the Ogbere community in Toto Local Government Area to rehabilitate its crumbling healthcare facility.

‎According to reports from Arewa PUNCH, the deteriorating state of the health center has triggered significant anxiety over rising medical crises in the region.

‎Musa Jameel, a youth representative from Toto LGA, spoke with Arewa PUNCH in Lafia on Thursday, characterizing the Ogbere health center as a “death trap” that has been responsible for the loss of many lives, particularly among mothers and young children.

‎He expressed deep regret that the Primary Healthcare Center (PHC) is currently devoid of basic amenities, professional staff, and medical tools, which compels villagers to trek long distances for medical attention.

‎“The facility has no physicians, no nursing staff, no medication, and no power supply. While the structure is still standing, it is completely hollow and non-functional. This situation is unsustainable,” he remarked.

‎“I am reaching out to Governor Abdullahi Sule, asking him to intervene through his office to salvage the clinic and bring back a sense of security to our people,” Jameel petitioned.

‎Representing the local youth, Jameel further insisted on a total overhaul and proper stocking of the center, the posting of skilled health workers, and the provision of round-the-clock emergency services for maternal and pediatric care.

‎While also directing a plea to the Toto LGA Chairman, Pharm. Ahmed Baba Yahaya, Jameel praised the chairman’s previous successes in other districts but urged him to prioritize Ogbere, arguing that the village has suffered from neglect for far too long.

‎Additionally, he called on all Ogbere indigenes, whether residing locally or overseas, to raise their voices in solidarity until the state government addresses the community’s plight.

‎In a related development, it was discovered that the Nigerian Federal Government, in collaboration with the World Bank, has initiated the renovation of 58 Primary Healthcare centers throughout Nasarawa State to bolster public health.

‎Dr. Usman Iskilu-Saleh, the Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency, recently shared this update during a visit from the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Lafia.

‎He explained that although the federal goal is to refurbish a PHC in every one of the state’s 147 electoral wards, the project is currently starting with an initial 58 facilities across various locations.

‎He stated, “The government is dedicated to renewing these centers across all 147 wards. Currently, work has already begun on 58 specific sites within Nasarawa State.”

‎“By revitalization, I mean these centers will transition to 24-hour operations. They will remain open and accessible at all times without exception,” Iskilu-Saleh clarified.

‎The Executive Secretary reaffirmed that Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration is fully committed to ensuring that top-tier medical services reach every citizen.

‎He concluded by assuring communities with failing infrastructure that the state government is dedicated to upgrading their clinics and promised that their specific grievances would be tackled in the very near future.
