Beware of Recalled Indomie Vegetable Flavour Noodles, NAFDAC Warns Public

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has cautioned Nigerians against a recalled batch of Indomie Vegetable Flavour instant noodles due to the discovery of allergens that were not declared on the product label.

In a public notice issued on Sunday, the Director-General of the agency, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, explained that the affected noodles are not available for sale within Nigeria. She, however, noted that the agency has stepped up monitoring activities nationwide to ensure the product does not find its way into local markets.

Adeyeye stated that NAFDAC had taken preventive steps by directing surveillance operations across all states and zones, with instructions to zonal directors and state coordinators to confiscate the product if it is found anywhere in the country.

According to her, the agency’s Ports Inspection Directorate has also been placed on high alert to stop any attempt to import the recalled or unauthorised noodle products into Nigeria.

She further reminded the public that noodles are on the Federal Government’s Import Prohibition List, making their importation illegal, a factor she said greatly limits the chances of the recalled product entering the Nigerian market.

Despite this restriction, Adeyeye said NAFDAC has continued rigorous nationwide surveillance as a precautionary measure to safeguard public health.

The NAFDAC boss advised consumers to remain vigilant, dispose of the recalled noodles immediately if encountered, and report any suspected sale or distribution to the nearest NAFDAC office or through the agency’s toll-free number, 0800-162-3322.

She also encouraged members of the public to report any adverse reactions related to the product through NAFDAC’s electronic reporting platforms available on its official website.
