Former Delta North Senator Peter Nwaoboshi Dies at 68
Former Nigerian lawmaker, Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi, who represented the Delta North Senatorial District, has died at the age of 68.
The news of his passing was confirmed on Friday, December 19, 2025, following a collapse at his residence in Abuja.
He was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State expressed deep sorrow over Nwaoboshi’s death, describing it as a significant loss to the Anioma nation, Delta State, and Nigeria.
In a condolence message, the governor hailed Nwaoboshi as a dedicated public servant, a proud son of Delta State, and a courageous defender of the Anioma cause, noting that his contributions to nation-building would not be forgotten.
Nwaoboshi had a distinguished political career spanning several decades. He served in the National Assembly from 2015 to 2023, representing Delta North in the Senate. During his tenure, he notably held the position of Chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs, where he championed development initiatives and policies aimed at improving the welfare of the region and his constituents.
In addition to his legislative work, Nwaoboshi played a pivotal role within party politics. He served two terms as chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State and later joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), leaving a mark as a strategic political leader and mentor to many emerging politicians.
Several political figures and colleagues have reacted to his passing, mourning the loss of a seasoned lawmaker whose influence shaped the political landscape of Delta State.
The Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo, described him as a mentor and friend, while others highlighted his commitment to governance, equity, and community development.
