NIMC Launches Digital Pre-Enrolment Portal to Speed Up National Identity Registration

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has unveiled a new digital Pre-Enrolment Portal aimed at fast-tracking the National Identification Number (NIN) registration process and easing congestion at enrolment centres across the country.

In a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, the Commission said the portal allows applicants to securely submit their personal details, upload required documents and book appointments online before visiting an enrolment centre for biometric capture.

According to NIMC, the initiative is designed to significantly reduce waiting times, improve data accuracy and deliver a smoother, more efficient registration experience for Nigerians.

Speaking on the development, the Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, Dr Kayode Adegoke, said the platform enables prospective applicants both within Nigeria and in the Diaspora to complete their biodata submission digitally ahead of physical enrolment.

“The introduction of the Pre-Enrolment Portal is a major step toward decongesting enrolment centres nationwide and ensuring a more seamless and citizen-friendly registration process,” Adegoke said.

He added that by allowing applicants to pre-submit their information online, the Commission expects to minimise errors during data capture and shorten the time spent at enrolment centres.

NIMC emphasised that the portal reflects its commitment to efficient, secure and accessible digital identity services, noting that the registration itself remains free of charge.

Applicants are only required to present themselves at their chosen enrolment centre for biometric capture after completing the online pre-enrolment process.

The Commission also stated that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises digital transformation, improved public service delivery and inclusive national development.

With the new platform, NIMC said it is reinforcing its drive to modernise identity management in Nigeria and ensure that more citizens and legal residents can obtain their NIN conveniently and without unnecessary delays.
