Ebonyi Governor Nwifuru Approves ₦150,000 Christmas Bonus for Civil Servants
Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has announced a ₦150,000 Christmas bonus for every civil servant in the state, a gesture aimed at rewarding workers for their dedication and boosting morale ahead of the festive season.
The announcement was made on Sunday during a church service at the Government House Chapel in Abakaliki, where Governor Nwifuru emphasised that the bonus reflects his administration’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the welfare of public servants, even amid revenue challenges faced by the state over the past year.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, the governor explained that the bonus is intended to recognise the hard work and contributions of civil servants, and to provide them with financial relief during the Christmas period.
The announcement was met with enthusiasm by workers, who welcomed the additional support as timely and helpful for holiday preparations.
During the service, Governor Nwifuru also addressed concerns regarding major infrastructure projects in the state, including the Vincent Agwu Nwankwo (VANCO) Flyover, assuring citizens that ongoing construction works are on course and will bring long-term economic and social benefits once completed.
Furthermore, the governor reiterated his stance on the upcoming local government elections, stressing that he has not endorsed any candidate and will ensure a level playing field for all aspirants. He reminded political officeholders interested in contesting council elections to resign in compliance with electoral laws.
The Christmas bonus aligns with previous worker-friendly policies under the Nwifuru administration, including adjustments to the minimum wage and other welfare initiatives, reflecting a broader strategy to motivate civil servants, improve productivity, and foster loyalty within the public service.
As the festive season approaches, the ₦150,000 bonus is expected to enhance the financial capacity of civil servants, stimulate local economic activity, and reinforce goodwill between the state government and its workforce.
