President Tinubu Congratulates Oyebamiji on Osun APC Governorship Candidature
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji on his emergence as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Osun State, ahead of the August 8, 2026 off-season election. The commendation was conveyed through a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
In the statement, President Tinubu hailed Oyebamiji’s victory at the APC primary, describing it as a demonstration of party unity, reconciliation, and commitment to the party’s collective vision. He noted that the nomination process, which saw several aspirants voluntarily step down, reflected a mature, peaceful, and inclusive approach to political competition.
The President urged Oyebamiji to exercise magnanimity by embracing all party leaders, former aspirants, and stakeholders, stressing that inclusivity would be critical for consolidating APC’s presence in Osun State and ensuring a successful electoral outcome in 2026.
Tinubu described the nomination as the beginning of a “journey to reclaim Osun State for the progressive fold” and called on APC members and leaders to remain focused and united.
The Osun APC primary, held in Osogbo, involved 1,660 delegates representing all 30 local government areas and 332 wards in the state.
Following motions moved by other aspirants who withdrew in his favor, Oyebamiji was unanimously affirmed as the party’s flag bearer.
Oyebamiji, a former Managing Director of the Nigeria Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), thanked delegates and party leaders for the peaceful and organized primary.
He pledged to work toward a prosperous and unified Osun State, emphasizing development, good governance, and empowerment for all residents.
Political analysts suggest that the APC’s consolidation around Oyebamiji, coupled with the endorsement and support of President Tinubu, positions the party strongly in its effort to reclaim Osun State from opposition control in the 2026 elections. The party’s coordinated approach signals a strategic push to harness unity and grassroots mobilization ahead of the off-season governorship poll.
