Bandit Warlord, Kachalla Kallamu Killed in Army Major Sokoto Operation

The Nigerian Army has recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against terrorism in the Northwest with the elimination of a notorious bandit warlord, Kachalla Kallamu, in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Kallamu, a feared commander and one of the closest allies of the infamous terror kingpin, Bello Turji, was neutralised during a coordinated military offensive carried out by troops of the 8 Division, supported by local vigilante groups.

A senior military source, who confirmed the development on Tuesday, described Kallamu’s death as “a significant victory in the ongoing war against terrorism and banditry.”

According to the source, the operation was launched in the early hours of Monday following credible intelligence on the movement of the bandit leader and his associates.

During the sweep around Kurawa village, troops reportedly neutralised Kallamu alongside one of Turji’s major logistics suppliers, disrupting a critical supply chain that had long sustained terror operations in the axis.

Kallamu, a native of Garin-Idi in Sabon Birni, had been responsible for multiple deadly assaults, raids, and mass displacements across eastern Sokoto communities.

His activities created widespread fear, forcing thousands of residents to flee their homes over the past years.

Military intelligence revealed that he had resurfaced in Sokoto after fleeing intense military pressure in June 2025, during which he was believed to have taken refuge in Kogi State to evade arrest and prosecution.

The military source praised local residents for providing timely intelligence that played a crucial role in the success of the operation, stressing that sustained collaboration between citizens and security forces remains key to defeating banditry.

Across Sabon Birni and neighbouring communities, news of Kallamu’s death has sparked relief and cautious optimism.

The Special Adviser on Security to Governor Ahmad Aliyu, retired Colonel Ahmad Usman, was said to have joined residents in celebrating what many described as “long-awaited justice” for victims of bandit attacks.

The Nigerian Army has vowed to maintain pressure on remaining terror cells in the Northwest as part of ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability to the region.
