Delta Police Command Arrest Suspects in Murder of Retired Judge Ifeoma Okogwu

The Delta State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in the investigation of the murder of retired High Court Judge Ifeoma Okogwu, with the arrest of key suspects linked to her killing.

The development comes nearly two weeks after the former judge was found dead at her residence in Asaba, sparking widespread outrage across the state.

The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the Delta Police Command apprehended 25‑year‑old security guard Godwin Mngumi on December 6, 2025, in Anambra State. Investigators recovered the late judge’s mobile phone from him, which authorities described as a critical piece of evidence connecting him to the crime.

During interrogation, Mngumi confessed to inviting an accomplice, Nnaji Obalum, along with a third, yet-to-be-identified individual, to the residence where the murder was allegedly carried out. Obalum has since also been arrested, while a manhunt continues for the third suspect.

Justice Okogwu’s body was discovered on November 23, 2025, in her sitting room, behind The Pointer Newspapers office in Asaba. Police reports indicate that she was found with her hands, legs, and mouth tied, suggesting a targeted and violent attack.

Her death sent shockwaves through the community and raised concerns over the security of retired judicial officers.

The Delta State Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, confirmed the arrests and assured that the command will leave no stone unturned in bringing all perpetrators to justice.

He urged members of the public with information relevant to the investigation to come forward to assist law enforcement efforts.

The apprehension of Mngumi and Obalum is being hailed as a major step forward in the investigation, providing hope that justice will soon be served for the slain judge.

Authorities have emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and that further arrests may be made as more evidence comes to light.
