Ooni Installs First Lady, Remi Tinubu as Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua

The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, was on Sunday installed as Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua by the Ooni of Ife, His Royal Majesty Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, in a grand cultural ceremony held in Ile-Ife.

The installation, which formed part of activities marking the monarch’s 10th coronation anniversary, drew top traditional rulers, governors, political leaders and dignitaries from across the country. The Ooni described Senator Tinubu as a symbol of grace, humility, and service, noting that the title recognises her longstanding contributions to national development and her commitment to preserving Yoruba values. In a goodwill message, the Government of Ogun State joined the Yoruba nation in celebrating the First Lady, describing the honour as “well-deserved.” The statement praised Senator Tinubu for her “life of service, unwavering dedication to nation-building, and tireless support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” noting that her influence continues to inspire women and communities across Nigeria. According to the statement, the First Lady has demonstrated exceptional leadership through her advocacy for unity, empowerment and moral values within the Yoruba race and beyond. The government stressed that she has stood as “a steadfast pillar” beside the President, offering wisdom and support in ways that have shaped Nigeria’s political trajectory. We rejoice with Your Excellency on this royal honour,” the message read. “You remain a true pride of womanhood and a mother whose impact transcends borders. We pray that God grants you continued strength, favour and fulfilment as you carry out your noble responsibilities. The ceremony, widely described as historic, featured traditional rites, cultural performances and tributes celebrating Senator Tinubu’s contributions to public service, humanitarian work and community development. Her installation as Yeye Asiwaju places her among the foremost women leaders in the Yoruba traditional hierarchy. The event underscored the deep ties between the First Lady and Yoruba cultural institutions, further strengthening her role as a unifying figure within the South-West and across the nation.
