Sokoto Government Refutes Claims Linking Governor Aliyu to Otti’s Visit to Nnamdi Kanu

The Sokoto State Government has debunked viral reports alleging that Governor Ahmed Aliyu was part of a recent visit by Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, at the Sokoto Custodial Centre.

In a statement released on Friday by the governor’s spokesperson, Abubakar Bawa, the administration described the reports as false and misleading. Bawa clarified that Governor Aliyu was in Saudi Arabia observing the Lesser Hajj on 30 November 2025—the same period Governor Otti’s private visit to the state took place.

The statement explained that Otti’s arrival at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport was handled by a delegation of commissioners and Special Advisers. He was later ushered to the Government House, where he received the standard protocol reserved for visiting governors.

The government emphasised Sokoto’s reputation for hospitality, noting that visitors are treated with dignity regardless of ethnicity or religious background.

Reaffirming Aliyu’s principles, the statement stressed that the governor remains committed to national unity and continues to uphold the rule of law.

“The Sokoto State Government wishes to state clearly that Governor Ahmed Aliyu maintains profound respect for constituted authority, upholds the Nigerian ideal, and is known for his peaceful and law-abiding disposition,” the statement added.
