Nigeria, Not America Is God’s Own Country, Says Senator Yari, Insists Only Nigerians Can Fix Nigeria
Former Governor of Zamfara State and serving senator, Abdulaziz Yari, has said that Nigeria is more deserving of the label “God’s own country” than the United States, insisting that the nation has survived multiple crises only through divine intervention and the resilience of its people.
Speaking during an event where he addressed political leaders and community stakeholders, Senator Yari, also known as Marafan Sokoto, said Nigeria’s history proves that the country is divinely protected and destined to remain united despite internal challenges.
According to him, “America says their own country is God’s own country but this country called Nigeria is more of God’s own country than any other.
This is because so much havoc was initiated by we ourselves but we came back together.”
Reflecting on Nigeria’s political history, Yari noted that the country has faced moments that many believed would lead to national collapse but still managed to stay united.
He cited the June 12 political crisis and the tensions before the return to democracy in 1999 as examples of turning points where Nigeria survived against predictions.
He said, “Before 1999 some issues came up but the country remained. Look at June 12, everybody thought the country will go away but God that made the country come together as one in 1914, that God is in charge and would remain in charge.”
Yari dismissed speculations about Nigeria’s breakup, insisting that the nation is divinely ordained to remain whole. He urged Nigerians to ignore foreign influence or external commentary on Nigeria’s internal affairs.
“Anybody thinking otherwise shouldn’t waste his time because Nigeria has come to stay as a nation,” he said.
He also cautioned Nigerians against seeking external saviors, specifically referencing former U.S. President Donald Trump.
“Don’t call Trump, it’s the business of Nigerians. Trump has no business in Nigeria. He can’t solve the problem of Nigeria; the problem of Nigeria can only be solved by Nigerians,” Yari added.
His remarks have drawn attention across political circles, with supporters describing the statement as patriotic and timely, given ongoing national conversations about unity, governance, and foreign influence.
