Sowore Re-elected National Chairman of African Action Congress at Abuja Convention

The African Action Congress (AAC) has held its National Convention in Abuja, re-electing human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, as National Chairman, alongside other members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

The convention, described by the party as a demonstration of internal democracy, took place in November 2025 and brought together delegates from all over the country.

Sowore, a prominent activist and founder of the #RevolutionNow movement, reaffirmed his commitment to justice, equity, and the dismantling of oppressive systems that perpetuate poverty and insecurity in Nigeria.

Addressing party delegates, he described the convention as more than a statutory exercise, calling it a platform for “genuine democratic participation” within the party’s ranks.

The newly elected National Working Committee features representatives from across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones, emphasizing inclusivity and national representation.

Key appointments include Pastor Sam Ajeigbe as Deputy National Chairman (Administration), Enefa Georgewill as Deputy National Chairman (South-South), Chioma Ifemeludike (South-East), Lijofi Victor (South-West), and John Nicodemus (North-East). Other positions filled include National Secretary, Organizing Secretary, Publicity Secretary, Financial Secretary, Treasurer, Women Leader, and Youth Leader.

The Convention Planning Committee, chaired by Kayode Babayomi, coordinated the event, with Ambassador Umar Y. Abubakar serving as Secretary. Party officials said the convention was conducted transparently, allowing delegates to freely exercise their voting rights and actively participate in the party’s decision-making processes.

Observers note that the re-election of Sowore consolidates his leadership and reinforces the party’s foundational ideals, particularly its focus on social justice, anti-oppression, and reform-oriented governance.

The convention also serves as a strategic move to rejuvenate the party’s structure and project unity, especially following previous internal disputes and legal challenges over leadership claims in past years.

The AAC leadership emphasized that the convention and leadership renewal are intended to position the party for stronger engagement in upcoming elections, while also restoring confidence among members and supporters nationwide.

By combining regional representation with a reaffirmed leadership structure, the AAC aims to demonstrate both resilience and commitment to democratic principles in Nigeria’s multiparty political landscape.
