Igbo Chief Alleges UK Meeting Between Nnamdi Kanu and Stakeholders Ended in Disagreement

An Igbo community leader has claimed that a recent meeting between detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, and a group of Igbo stakeholders in the United Kingdom ended in a sharp disagreement over the direction of the separatist movement.

The chief, who said some of those present were individuals who took part in the Biafra struggle under the late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, alleged that the stakeholders rejected Kanu’s proposals and expressed concerns about the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

According to the chief, the elders “saw through what he described as inconsistencies” in Kanu’s approach and asked him to step back from certain actions allegedly linked to IPOB.

He claimed that Kanu refused to do so, leading to tensions during the meeting.

The alleged meeting has not been independently verified, and neither IPOB nor representatives of Nnamdi Kanu have publicly commented on the claims.

Kanu, who has been in detention since 2021, continues to face charges related to treasonable felony, though his case has attracted widespread legal and political debate, with various groups calling for his release or a negotiated settlement.

Observers note that internal disagreements among Igbo leaders and pro-Biafra factions are not new, reflecting broader divisions over the best approach to addressing grievances in the South-East.
