We Won’t Ask Christians to Take Up Arms Despite Terror Attacks, Says Omobude
The former President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Rev. Felix Omobude has stated that despite the continuous targeting of Christians by terrorist groups for killings and abductions, the church would not advocate for its members to resort to violence.
Speaking to newsmen on Sunday about pressing national issues, Omobude emphasized that calling for arms would be “irresponsible” and that “violence will give birth to violence.”
He stated that the church’s restraint is rooted in the belief that a united Nigeria is paramount, urging leaders not to mistake their restraint for weakness.
He confirmed that the PFN will continue to advocate, pray, and educate its members appropriately, but will not “call for arms unless you want to scatter things.”
While ruling out armed retaliation, the cleric affirmed that churches and Christians are right to organize protection through appropriate channels during services and activities.
Furthermore, Omobude addressed the argument against seeking international help for Nigeria’s security crisis. He dismissed concerns that external assistance would infringe on the nation’s sovereignty, asserting that Nigeria has already been taken over by foreigners, making the sovereignty argument “not hold water.”
