Governors Alex Otti Visits Nnamdi Kanu at Sokoto Correctional Centre
The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, paid a visit to the convicted leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, at the Sokoto Correctional Centre on Sunday.
The visit was confirmed by Kanu’s special counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, and his brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, in separate posts on their respective Facebook pages.
Ejimakor publicly thanked the Governor for honoring his promise: “for fulfilling the promise you made to me to visit your brother, MAZI NNAMDI KANU. You’re a man of your words and gutsy to boot.”
He also expressed hope that the visit would be the “first step to ending this undeserved ordeal, sooner than later.” Similarly, Emmanuel Kanu hailed the visit as a “unified statement” made by Governor Otti and the people of Sokoto.
The visit comes after Kanu’s recent sentencing to life imprisonment. Following the judgment, Governor Otti had previously stated that he was actively pursuing a strategy, which he initiated during Kanu’s trial, to secure the IPOB leader’s final freedom from prison.
