NIS Confirms Killing of 3 Personnel in Fresh Kebbi Border Attack
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced the death of three of
its personnel following a violent attack by suspected Lukarawa militants in Kebbi State.
The officers were reportedly shot dead at a security checkpoint in Bakin Ruwa, located along the Maje border route in Bagudo Local Government Area.
The attack, which occurred around midnight on Wednesday, has intensified anxiety among residents of nearby border settlements already grappling with repeated security breaches.
The assailants escaped into the surrounding forest immediately after carrying out the assault.
The latest incident comes barely weeks after gunmen killed a Customs officer and set several official vehicles ablaze during a related attack in the same border axis.
This string of assaults has fueled growing concerns over the rising wave of insecurity along the Nigeria–Benin border corridor in Bagudo.
The Lukarawa group has been linked to multiple violent operations in parts of Kebbi State, often targeting both security operatives and civilians.
Confirming the development, the NIS Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, described the deaths as a tragic loss for the service.
He explained that the personnel were performing their legitimate duties when they were ambushed. “It is a deeply regrettable incident. We have commenced an internal probe. As expected, this falls under internal security matters, and relevant security agencies have been duly informed. They are already taking necessary action,” he stated.
Akinlabi further assured that despite the tragedy, the NIS remains steadfast in fulfilling its responsibilities at the nation’s borders.
