FAME Foundation Launches 16 Days of Activism Campaign, Calls for Stronger Action Against Gender-Based Violence
The FAME Foundation has officially launched its annual 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) campaign, urging individuals, communities, and government agencies to take stronger action against all forms of violence, including the growing threat of digital abuse.
The campaign runs from November 25 to December 10, coinciding with the global initiative to eliminate violence against women and girls.
During the launch, FAME Foundation highlighted the importance of addressing both traditional and modern forms of abuse. In particular, the foundation emphasized that digital violence — including online harassment, cyberstalking, and image-based abuse — has become a pressing concern in Nigeria and globally.
Advocates called for stronger legal frameworks, proactive policing, and public awareness to protect victims in cyberspace.
A key component of the campaign is the Femicide Tracker, an online tool that allows citizens to report cases of femicide and gender-based killings.
Verified reports are shared publicly through live infographics, ensuring transparency and providing critical data to policymakers, law enforcement, and civil society organizations.
The foundation stressed that this documentation is vital for accountability and for shaping policies that safeguard women and girls.
The 16-day programme also includes a series of panel discussions, community outreach events, and advocacy activities, aiming to educate the public on the root causes of GBV and to promote survivor-centered interventions.
The foundation encourages men and boys to actively participate in dialogues about gender equality and the prevention of violence.
Speaking at the launch, FAME Foundation representatives said:
“Ending gender-based violence requires coordinated action from all sectors of society. Digital spaces should be safe for women and girls, just as their homes, schools, and workplaces should be.”
The campaign aligns with the national 16 Days of Activism theme for 2025, which focuses on ending digital violence, reinforcing the need for concerted efforts by government agencies, civil society, and citizens to create safer environments online and offline.
FAME Foundation’s initiative underscores its continued commitment to empowering survivors, raising awareness, and advocating for systemic change, while leveraging technology to track, report, and respond to incidents of gender-based violence.
